The science behind fitting in.

One of my former managers once told me to never say “Hey” in an email as a greeting. It’s unprofessional, it was implied. That moment held such significance, as if the whole universe was giving me a chance to choose. To choose myself, or to continue fitting in.

You see, there’s no such thing as inappropriate or unprofessional. Misplacement. That’s what occurs when someone doesn’t jive with your way of being. You put a shoe in a kitchen sink and it becomes a rude bitch. You put that shoe on your foot – it becomes your trusty servant.

It’s all about the placement.

Good news? It’s almost never “them” – it’s us. It’s our individual responsibility to recognize what’s appropriate for us, and what’s inappropriate for “them”. The universe will always send us those people who will point out what we “should” be or do. Honour them. They are shining the light on what you really are all about.
