Steve Jobs and Authenticity

Steve Jobs died today …

Yes, it’s a very sad day, but on the other hand it’s a day to truly celebrate what he has given to humankind…

A true visionary. Pure authenticity!

“For something this complicated, it’s really hard to design products by focus groups. A lot of times, people don’t know what they want until you show it to them.”

– Steve Jobs

Very well-said, Mr. Jobs!

Not everything in marketing can be quantifiable. Sometimes we have to go with the gut feeling. Sometimes we have to trust what we know. We have to believe in what we can deliver, and just go for it.

There have been a lot of talks lately on Facebook and Twitter, about the importance of being “you”, about being “authentic”, if you want your Social Media strategy to succeed.

To me, authenticity is doing what you think should be done. Saying what you believe should be said, and not being side-tracked by any “facts” or “best practices” that may be against your idea.

I am not saying that you have to build your marketing strategy solely on your gut feeling – you do need to know your numbers – but remember that not everything can be categorized, analyzed, predicted and measured.

RIP, Steve Jobs. Thank you for thinking different(ly)!
